In-World reading, this Saturday!
Fellow Quillian, John Lambert (Timorth Berkmans inSL) will be reading his recent short story “A Blizzard Revelation” this Saturday evening.
This is the second of our new monthly events, occurring on the third Saturday of each month at 6pmSLT (9pmET/6pmPT).
The reading will be recorded for use in our upcoming Quillian Podcast, but you’re urged to attend now as the podcast won’t be available for a few months yet.
The reading will occur in the Workshop building, on the second floor beside the traditional meeting circle. The reading is a voice event, so attendees are encouraged to come with their “ears on” and their microphones off. Since the event is also being recorded, we request that you refrain from using audio ‘gestures’ or other devices that create ambient noise.

Tomorrow… A Busy Day for the Quillians!
Our members are going to be involved with two events tomorrow.
John Lambert will be guest on “Writers’ Realm” discussing writing, podcasting and among other interesting things. The event is at 1PM EST (10 AM PT/SLT) at Netera’s Coffee Lounge.
Also, as a reminder as Michael has already posted:
The Quillians are pleased to announce that they will be participating in the American Library Association’s Second Life ReadOut! On October 2, 2010 at 4pm ET (1pm PT/SLT), Second Life residents can listen to excerpts from various banned or challenged books, as read by special guests. The Quillians will be represented by authors Michael A. Stackpole and Steven Saus, as well as Quillian founder, Michael J. Hercus and member, John Lambert.
Should be a fun day for all!
Announcing a new event night!
The Quillians are proud to announce the addition of a new event night to supplement our weekly meetings!
The third Saturday of each month at 6pm SLT will mark the new meeting time. The first such event will be held on October 16, 2010.
The scheduled event night will see a few different forms along the way – everything from readings to interviews and perhaps even game nights.
As an extra bonus, readings and interviews will be recorded for inclusion into a Quillian Podcast (to be launched early next year). Both the live reading and the podcast recording will assist Quillian members in promoting their stories and themselves to a larger market.
We are interested in making this new event night into a group effort and, in that spirit, we are looking to our fellow group members for ideas and suggestions for different event themes. We are also looking for volunteers who would like to help organize events, or would like to hold a reading of their own. If you are interested in helping out, please contact either Graegor Aeon or Timothy Berkmans inSL.
Banned Books Week
Every year, books are challenged for their right to be placed on the library shelf. Some are outright banned.
To focus awareness on this issue, Banned Book Week was created. This is the twenty-eighth year for this event, held annually during the last week of September. This year’s event runs from September 25 through October 2.

A successful seminar
Special thanks to Kat Alderson for her wonderful Web Design Seminar last Monday! The event ran ‘just a little long’ at around three hours, but it was jam-packed with information. I know I spent the next day or two revamping my website and I’m sure I wasn’t alone.
If you’ll remember, this was also a Relay For Life fundraiser seminar, with donations being accepted for that wonderful cause. I’m very proud to announce that the seminar pulled in L$17,450.oo in donations! Well done everyone!
If you attended the seminar, let us know what you thought of it. Any lingering questions? A desire for another?
Web Design Seminar
In place of our normal Monday night meeting, on May 31, 2010, we will be hosting a web design seminar. The class will focus on beginners, but there should be something for everyone.
Expected topics include website creation, domain names, creative design elements, hosting, links and cross promotion.
The class is a Relay For Life fundraiser and donations will be collected during the event. Non-workshop members will have to pay a mandatory L$500 (about $1.80US) for the seminar, and the suggested donation is L$2000. Workshop members are encouraged to donate, but it is not required. Those who wish to, should send a L$500 payment to Graegor Aeon before the event, which will be forwarded on behalf of the workshop to RFL. Workshop members who wish to donate above and beyond the L$500 mark may do so directly into the RFL vendor on site. An accounting of all donated funds will be made available upon request (I’ll take a screenshot of my relevant transaction history).
Be aware that this will be a VOICE EVENT. Please arrive at the meeting with your speakers on and your microphones off. Questions may be asked via text chat, but will be answered in voice. Please arrive early for sound-checks or help with Second Life voice settings.
The seminar will be held on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 6pm SLT (9pm ET). It is expected to run about an hour, but may exceed that time based on the number of questions.
