Sherry is a now a link of the Chain.

Meeting Tonight!

Howdy Quillians and Friends,

We are having a meeting tonight inside Second Life at 6PM SLT. I do hope you all can attend. No set topic has been announced so feel free to bring up any topic.

New Goal Page Created!!!

Sherry’s email said it better than I could:

After some fabulous discussion at tonight’s meeting, it was decided
that “public” (within the group) goal-setting could be a helpful
motivator for the members of the group.  We also decided to use the
Quillian Facebook page, in conjunction with a live media board in the
F&SF meeting room, to facilitate matters.

Basically, we’ll ask (politely!) at each meeting how members are doing
with meeting goals they’ve set, and what they’re planning for the next
week. Members can post their goals in a discussion thread on the FB
page, which will also be viewable in SL on the media board.  F&SF
members who do not use Facebook can have their goals posted for them
by another group member, so all can participate.

The FB group page is here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Second-Life/Quillian-Workshop/363924678844
and the Discussion threads will be under…Discussions!

This is meant to be a motivating and positive move, not something to
cause stress or pressure!  There is NO requirement to post goals at
any time.  No-one will be mocked, pressured, or have pencils thrown at
them for not setting goals.  However, any member who lies about
reaching ridiculous goals (“I wrote a whole novel this morning!”) may
be required to wear embarrassing attachments in SL for the duration of
the meeting. ;)

Finally, Graegor, Our Esteemed Leader, wasn’t present at the meeting
when all this went down, so he may have some words for me about
this…hopefully they will be “great idea!” and not “you did WHAT?!”

;)

A successful seminar

Special thanks to Kat Alderson for her wonderful Web Design Seminar last Monday!  The event ran ‘just a little long’ at around three hours, but it was jam-packed with information.  I know I spent the next day or two revamping my website and I’m sure I wasn’t alone.

If you’ll remember, this was also a Relay For Life fundraiser seminar, with donations being accepted for that wonderful cause.  I’m very proud to announce that the seminar pulled in L$17,450.oo in donations!  Well done everyone!

If you attended the seminar, let us know what you thought of it.  Any lingering questions?  A desire for another?

Web Design Seminar

In place of our normal Monday night meeting, on May 31, 2010, we will be hosting a web design seminar.  The class will focus on beginners, but there should be something for everyone.

Expected topics include website creation, domain names, creative design elements, hosting, links and cross promotion.

The class is a Relay For Life fundraiser and donations will be collected during the event.  Non-workshop members will have to pay a mandatory L$500 (about $1.80US) for the seminar, and the suggested donation is L$2000.  Workshop members are encouraged to donate, but it is not required.  Those who wish to, should send a L$500 payment to Graegor Aeon before the event, which will be forwarded on behalf of the workshop to RFL.  Workshop members who wish to donate above and beyond the L$500 mark may do so directly into the RFL vendor on site.  An accounting of all donated funds will be made available upon request (I’ll take a screenshot of my relevant transaction history).

Be aware that this will be a VOICE EVENT.  Please arrive at the meeting with your speakers on and your microphones off.  Questions may be asked via text chat, but will be answered in voice.  Please arrive early for sound-checks or help with Second Life voice settings.

The seminar will be held on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 6pm SLT (9pm ET).  It is expected to run about an hour, but may exceed that time based on the number of questions.
